Flower Tales PSC-3 is a new generation emulsifier for Oil in Water emulsions featuring high compatibility and efficiency. It is used in small doses, leaving space in the formulation to other active ingredients. It is particularly appreciated as it adds emollient and moisturising properties to its emulsifying function. PSC-3 gives viscosity by creating lamellar structures in the emulsion; this mimics the cellular structure of the epidermis and improves the skin’s function as a natural barrier, protecting against external agents and maintaining the level of hydration. These lamellar structures have a multiplying effect on the properties of other consistency enhancers, reducing their amount required in the formulation. For example, it enhances the viscosity of Stearin, or when a small amount (0.2-0.5%) of Xantan Gum is added to the recipe, the texture and stability of the emulsion are improved.
For an optimised creation of the lamellar structures, we recommend adding the fat-soluble ingredients (B phase) to the water-soluble ingredients (A Phase) and stir before homogenisation. Vice versa, it is not recommended to add the A phase into the B phase and stir: the stirring may create a Water in Oil emulsion characterised by an undesired high viscosity, only to potentially revert to an unstable O/W emulsion during the cooling process. When the formulation requires the addition of the A phase into the B phase, we recommend to proceed to the homogenisation without stirring first.
DOSAGE: 1.5%-3% in lotions with 10-25% fats. 3% in creams with 20-35% fats. Stable at pH-3.5-8.5
