Flower Tales Long Piper titrated extract is a powerful active containing 90% piperine. This product is entirely obtained from dry extract of the fruits of wild Piper longum, a plant originating from Bengal.

Like the more common black pepper, long pepper is rich in piperine, a component renowned for its fat-burning properties: piperine’s effects inhibit the formation of new fat cells. Flower Tales Long Pepper extract works in synergy with Pink Pepper, Bladder wrack, Centella Asiatica and St. John’s Wort extracts for a comprehensive slimming action.

Piperine has been found to have repigmenting properties on skin affected by Vitiligo, in combination with prior exposure to UVB light. Piperine stimulates the activity of melanocytes inducing production of melanin and is indicated as natural remedy for the treatment of Vitiligo, in addition to conventional medical treatments, once the condition is already improving.

Long Pepper is rich in phenols and is therefore a powerful antioxidant, reducing oxidative stress on the skin. It has purifying properties and it is often combined with St John’s Wort, Propolis and Calendula extracts for the treatment of skin abscesses, acne and oily skin and the treatment of skin irritations or small cuts.

Long Pepper extract can be used in massage oils (it helps muscle relaxation) and treatments of muscle pain

Piperine also works well with coenzyme Q10, enhancing its properties. Piperine promotes the absorption of nutrients and helps reduce anaphylaxis on the skin.

FLOWER TALES QUALITY: This product is extracted using ethanol naturally derived from sugar cane, which is subsequently evaporated at low temperatures. It is then spray dried to produce a dry powder without compromising its beneficial components. The ratio of prime material and extract is 50/60:1 – this means that 50-60 kg of dry vegetable material is needed to produce 1 kg of extract. The result is a quality product with high concentration of active compound (90% Piperine) which can be used at very low concentrations, ensuring effectiveness and excellent value.

Why Long Pepper instead of Black Pepper? Piperine is more usually extracted from Black Pepper. Long Pepper is less commonly available, more costly and contains 30% less piperine than Black Pepper, which means that more plant material is needed to obtain the same quantity of active principle. Piperine extracted from black pepper however has a stronger smell, which makes long pepper extract more ideal for cosmetic use.

Solubility: moderately water soluble. Soluble in glycerine and alcohol. The addition of essential oils to the emulsion enhances the solubility of the extract in the finished product.

DOSAGE: 0.2-2%, dispersed in glycerine. The colour of products containing long pepper extract may be affected by the pH.

PRESERVATION: the bacterial count of this 100% natural product is relatively high. For long term preservation of products containing long pepper extract, simple preservatives or simple mixes such as phenoxyethanol+ethylhexyglycerin or sodium benzoate+potassium sorbate may not be sufficient. A more complex mix of preservatives at higher concentrations may be more suitable to obtain a more stable product. Lowering the pH to 5 also increases the long term stability.

Despite being quite a simple preservative, Flower Tales Ecobio Guard has however been shown to preserve sealed finished products in normal storage conditions for up to 30 months when used at 1% concentrations and pH 5
